Get Involved

Discipleship to Jesus Christ is the core of everything we do at Canvas Christian Church, and we know that it isn’t easy, nor does it come naturally. Becoming involved at our church means understanding this commitment and joining us for this purpose—striving in personal discipleship. Below, you will find ways in which we practically live this out, and we invite you to join us on our mission to make disciples in our homes, our communities, and throughout the world.

Bible Reading Plan

As a church, we are committed to reading the Bible together as we believe it helps us by staying aligned, providing accountability, and growing together in the knowledge of God and his word. We hope and encourage everyone to already have regular intimate times with God. As such, our weekly Bible reading plan is intended to supplement one’s devotional time, not be its sole source, and therefore, we believe it is simple and easily doable regardless of other time commitments.

Next Steps

Getting involved in a church can be intimidating, and trying to meet new people while understanding the church’s beliefs, mission, vision, and culture can often be overwhelming. At Canvas, we want to ensure you know who we are and what we’re about. Additionally, we want to hear about you and your family. Introductions is a series of sessions where we get to know each other. Upon conclusion, you’ll have a chance to meet with one of our elders to ask additional questions as well as explore potential next steps, whether baptism, serving, or joining one of our home fellowships.

Home Fellowships

Home fellowships are the lifeblood of Canvas Christian Church and our primary medium for making, growing, and multiplying disciples. In these fellowships, we mature as followers of Jesus through meaningful relationships and serving our community. Based on Acts 2, these fellowships meet in homes throughout Cumming, Dawsonville, and North Georgia, and they incorporate elements such as prayer, eating together, worship, and service. The fellowships meet regularly—some weekly and others bi-weekly—with additional ones launching often. We encourage everyone to join a fellowship.

Serve

Jesus did not come to be served but to serve others. At Canvas, we emphasize serving because it changes the heart of each of us. It transforms our perspective from being self-focused to recognizing the needs of those around us. Serving teaches us compassion and humility, and it helps us to grow in the image of Christ. Canvas provides many opportunities to serve both within the church and throughout our community through partnerships with other organizations.

Bible Studies

Besides our home fellowships, Canvas also offers regular Bible studies—specific opportunities dedicated to growing in the knowledge of scripture and how to apply it. Our Bible studies may center around a particular book of the Bible, or they may be reviewing a book outside the Bible or a specific topic. Bible studies occur periodically throughout the year and are generally open to all individuals, with some designed specifically for a particular age, gender, or life event.

Events

At Canvas, we strive to be relationship-driven over event-driven, recognizing that relationships typically grow us further and faster than merely attending an event. Therefore, we seek to provide a range of events that facilitate cultivating deeper relationships and supplement our spiritual growth rather than simply keeping us busy or active as a community. We offer events for all ages, from focusing on spiritual maturation to community outreach.
