Our vision at Canvas Christian Church is to be a multiethnic, multigenerational church that welcomes people of all abilities and socioeconomic statuses.
(Revelation 7:9-10)
The book of Revelation gives us a small glimpse of heaven—all nations joining in one song worshiping God. However, at Canvas Christian Church, we believe that waiting for heaven isn’t necessary to be a part of such an experience. We seek to create such an environment here, now. After all, it will only serve as practice for eternity.
Canvas offers a truly unique environment where everyone is welcome, regardless of their background, beliefs, or culture. We believe that in order for the body of Christ to be whole and healthy, each member of the body should be present and engaged. This is why do not exclude anyone from worshiping with us. We desire to provide a place where everyone feels welcomed and loved.
Jesus teaches his disciples to value the very least of all people. Each of us can find ourselves in a “least” position during certain times of our lives. We all know what that feels like—loneliness, rejected, hurting, and scared. Canvas Christian Church is a place where you can let your guard down and know that you are cherished for who you are, not for what you can or cannot offer. You are valuable because of your Creator, and we strive in every way to demonstrate how much you mean to the Father. At Canvas, there is nothing to leave at the door. Bring it all in—all of your baggage—and we’ll help you carry it because you matter to us.
A major influence of every person’s life is that of their family. For some, this may be a good thing. For others, not so much. However, Canvas Christian Church is a special kind of family. It’s one where every person is committed. We are committed to love. We are committed to peace. We are committed to each other. We are committed to you. We are here to demonstrate Christ’s love to you. We are a different kind of family because here, everyone belongs.
Our name, “Canvas,” communicates what we believe, namely, that every person’s life is a canvas upon which God is painting a beautiful masterpiece. There are bright colors and dark ones, good times and not so much. There are varying levels of hues and saturations. No two pictures are alike. This is important to us for two reasons. First, we all have separate, irreplaceable value. Each of us has something valuable to offer—something that no one else can provide. Second, we are all unique. Everything you have experienced is for a reason, and it shouldn’t be disregarded or ignored. Therefore, we seek to incorporate everyone’s thoughts, ideas, experiences, and abilities. Furthermore, we celebrate with you in each stroke of the Painter’s brush.
Our mission is to help individuals build a better relationship with God, each other, and the community.
(Matthew 22:35-40)
Our mission involves engaging each person where they are and helping them grow closer to God and those around them. Every activity, event, and initiative is prayed about and conducted with the intentional spiritual growth of each person in mind. We are purposeful with everything we do because the healthy and obedient discipleship of every follower of Jesus is core to our beliefs. We believe that faithful stewardship means helping each person grow spiritually.
Perhaps you have been a follower of Jesus for many years. Or, perhaps you’re still questioning and searching. Regardless of whether someone is a follower of Jesus or not, each person is on a spiritual journey. Canvas Christian Church is excited to help you in that journey and support you regardless of where you are spiritually. We have offerings for new believers, seasoned believers, or folks who are still seeking truth. We know that undergoing a spiritual formation is a delicate and fragile process. Canvas is simply here to walk with you and serve you in that process.
God is love, and we are taught to love like him. However, if we are not engaged with others, it is impossible to actively engage in love. Therefore, Christianity cannot be fully realized in isolation; it requires relationships. We must have a relationship with God; we must have a relationship with those who are like us; and, we must seek relationships with others who may be totally different than us. Each of these types of relationships are critical to our spiritual growth. Therefore, Canvas seeks to provide an environment where you can learn how and practice loving in each of these areas.
