Canvas Christian Church is led by a team of elders—men who lead by serving and have demonstrated Godly character and wisdom. All staff, including our lead pastor, are encouraged, prayed for, and held accountable by the elders.
Our Deacons are our servant leaders at Canvas. They represent what servanthood is all about. We are thankful for these men and the time they give to God in serving their church.
Lead Pastor
Originally from St. Joseph, IL, Stan is the lead pastor of Canvas Christian Church. He oversees the entire church, ensuring that the congregation continues growing closer to Jesus Christ through all its initiatives and ministries.
Upon graduation from Lincoln Christian College with a degree in Church and Family Life in 1982, Stan served in youth ministry for 16 years. He then had the privilege of planting a church in Naples, Florida. Additionally, he had the privilege of relocating a church that had existed for 50 years in St. Petersburg, Florida, to another area in the city. Stan and his wife, Janet, moved to Cumming in September 2008 to pastor Canvas Christian Church.
When he began in ministry years ago, Stan prayed that God would use him in whatever way he saw fit. He has a passion for people to come to know Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior. He refuses to compromise the Gospel and seeks everyone to live according to the Bible.
Stan and Janet have two daughters, Amy (Jeremy) and Amber (Abe), and six grandchildren.
Worship Director
Heather is the worship director at Canvas Christian Church, overseeing all Sunday worship experience components. She is responsible for the worship team (band, vocalists, worship choir) and the tech team (sound, lighting, camera, lyrics), along with many other elements.
Heather earned a bachelor’s degree in vocal performance and a master’s degree in music education from Piedmont College in Demorest, GA. She was an elementary music teacher for three years before having her firstborn, then transitioned to a stay-at-home mom for four years. When her youngest son was two, Heather began substitute teaching, and she eventually found herself long-term in a kindergarten classroom. At this point, Heather passed the GACE, earning a certification in early childhood education, and taught kindergarten and first grade for seven years.
Heather is originally from Cumming, GA, and other than moving away for college for several years, she has lived in Cumming her entire life. She loves the Lord with all her heart and desires so that everyone understands how loved they are by God and comes to know Him fully. Heather believes that God created everyone uniquely and has something special to offer the Kingdom.
Heather has been married to her husband, Jeremy, since 2000, and they have two sons, Noah and Jacob. Noah attends the University of West GA and runs on the cross country and track teams. Jacob is in high school and is highly involved in their drumline as a snare drummer. They have a Beagle dog named Scout, and as a family, they love spending time together—whether at church, at the track or cross country course, on the field for a game or competition for the band, in the mountains of Virginia at the family cabin, or getting together for birthdays or special occasions.
Family Ministry Director
Carly serves as the family ministry director at Canvas Christian Church, where her responsibilities encompass all Sunday operations, from activities to lesson plans. She also ensures that the check-in process for kids is smooth and that parents feel safe and welcome. Additionally, Carly is responsible for aligning all weekly volunteers in the children’s area and administering all family outreach activities and events.
Carly possesses a tremendous passion for kids. Originally, Carly acquired her certification as a nursing assistant, hoping to pursue a career in pediatric nursing. She later switched her major to psychology but never finished. Before joining Canvas Christian Church, Carly worked in diverse career roles, from customer service and sales to property management and waiting tables. She has volunteered in various capacities in kids ministry since she was 18, serving as a teacher and camp counselor. Ultimately, her love for kids and her heart for serving people is why we are thrilled to have her on the team.
Carly is a Cumming, GA native and has resided here her entire life. She is married to Richard, and they have one baby girl, Georgia, and four huskies named after their Disney fascination—Nala, Simba, Gus, and Kota.
Each team member is critical to helping Canvas Christian Church remain obedient in making disciples and serving our community.
